Account Basics
I just downloaded Drop The Hands — what's the first thing I should do?
Create your account, then complete the short setup flow: confirm the hand you play golf with, set your home course (if you have one), and set up your bag. This takes a couple of minutes and unlocks your first round tracking.
Link to this answerHow do I sign in?
Two ways: Sign in with Apple (one tap), or Continue with Email, which sends you a secure magic link — no password to remember. Tap the link in the email and you're in. (Team Sign In at the bottom is for staff only.)
Link to this answerDo I need to create a profile before I can use the app on the course?
Yes. A profile is required so your shot data, club distances, and recommendations are tied to you specifically — this is also what powers the AI caddie's suggestions.
Link to this answerWhat permissions does the app need, and do I have to allow all of them?
Location is required for core functionality — it powers GPS yardages and auto-detects which hole you're on. Declining location will disable the features that depend on it. Other prompts (such as notifications) appear in context and are optional.
Link to this answerI signed up with email but never got my magic link — what now?
Check spam and promotions first. If it's not there after a few minutes, request a new link from the sign-in screen. If it still doesn't arrive, contact support — this is usually a mistyped email at signup.
Link to this answerProfile & Persona Setup
The app asks which hand I play with — what if that's different from my everyday hand?
Answer based on the hand you play golf with, not your everyday handedness — that's what matters for club recommendations.
Link to this answerI have an official handicap, but I still feel like a beginner — can I select both a handicap number and "Beginner"?
No, these are mutually exclusive by design — entering a numeric handicap assumes you're past total-beginner status. If you don't have an official handicap yet, select "Beginner" rather than entering a rough guess.
Link to this answerMy playing history doesn't cleanly match one of the options — what should I pick?
Pick whichever single option best reflects where you are overall — only one selection is supported here, even if your real situation spans more than one. This isn't permanent; other profile answers can be adjusted later.
Link to this answerI'm renting clubs temporarily — should I select "partial set"?
Select "partial set" for now — there's no separate "temporary rental" option today, so it's the closest fit. A rental set may have different lofts and shafts than your own clubs, so double-check your bag setup after a round or two rather than treating that fitting as permanent.
Link to this answerI don't know my exact 7-iron distance — what should I enter during setup?
A rough, honest estimate is fine. The app treats this as a starting estimate, not measured data, and refines it with real evidence from your rounds. "About 130 on a good day" is a perfectly good answer.
Link to this answerWhat's the difference between the Warm and Technical coaching tones?
Warm gives encouraging, plain-language calls ("Nice, easy 8-iron here, middle of the green is perfect"); Technical gives precise numbers and conditions ("149 plays, 142 downwind, 8-iron center"). The app shows both side by side on the same shot so you can feel the difference before choosing, and you can change it later in Profile → Settings → Coaching, along with detail level and how much encouragement you want.
Link to this answerWhat's the "personalized welcome summary" at the end of setup?
A plain-language recap of the profile you just built — name, experience level, goal, and route strategy — shown back to you before you start playing, so you can confirm it reflects your actual answers.
Link to this answerGetting Ready to Play
Can I use Drop The Hands without setting up my clubs first?
You can browse the app, but round tracking and club recommendations won't work correctly until your bag is set up. We strongly recommend finishing bag setup before your first round.
Link to this answerIs there a tutorial or practice mode before I take this to the course?
The onboarding flow walks you through Assessment — a short club-by-club setup that establishes your starting distances and handicap-based defaults. It's not a simulated round, but it's what the caddie uses to build your first bag before you tee off.
Link to this answerI'm short on time — can I skip setup and just go play?
Yes. Accept the handicap-based defaults, fix any club distance you know is clearly wrong, set your usual miss on the driver, and go play. The app corrects the rest over your first few rounds as real data comes in.
Link to this answerThe app said not to worry about my score for my first few rounds — is that literal?
Yes — your early rounds are framed as rhythm-building rather than score-tracking, specifically to reduce pressure while the app is still learning your distances and tendencies. Your rounds are still recorded; the app just isn't asking you to focus on the score yet.
Link to this answerSome courses show as "coming soon" instead of being selectable — can I request a course get mapped?
Yes — for now, email support with the course you'd like mapped and we'll add it to the queue. There's no in-app request button yet, so email is the way to flag a course.
Link to this answerI onboarded on my phone — will my data carry over if I switch devices?
Yes, as long as you sign in with the same account. Bag setup, round history, and preferences are stored to your profile, not your device.
Link to this answerBag Setup
How do I add clubs to my bag in the app?
Make it match the 13 or 14 clubs you actually carry — not the clubs you wish you hit. If a club isn't in the bag, the caddie will never call it, so leave out anything that's not really in play this season.
Link to this answerShould I enter carry distance or total distance for each club?
Carry — how far the ball flies in the air, not where it stops after rolling out. This is a common setup mistake and it throws off every recommendation downstream, since the caddie plans around where the ball lands.
Link to this answerWhat's the best way to get accurate starting distances?
Calibrate at the range if you can — hit about five balls with each club and the app averages them into a real number, along with your shape and bias. A guessed number versus a range-calibrated number is the difference between honest advice and a bag full of guesses.
Link to this answerThe app flagged a "Gap Check" on two of my clubs — what does that mean?
Two clubs sitting on the same distance usually means one of them is wrong. For example, a 35-yard gap between two wedges likely means you're guessing on half your approach shots. Fix the outlier and the gap should resolve to something realistic.
Link to this answerWhat is the "miss" setting on each club for?
It's where you tell the app your typical mishit shape and direction for that club. This is what lets the caddie say things like "your miss is left, so favor the right half" — it's tendency data, not a judgment on your swing.
Link to this answerWhat does "star your gamer" mean?
It lets you mark the club you trust most under pressure. The caddie leans on that club more heavily in tight situations — late in a good round, a tough lie, anywhere confidence matters as much as the number.
Link to this answerMy club shows as "Learning" instead of "dialed" — what's the difference?
These are confidence levels, not settings you change manually. A club starts as Learning and moves toward dialed as real evidence builds from rounds and warm-ups. Each club card shows exactly where its current number came from (assessment, rounds, warm-ups, or a manual edit), so you always know what the caddie is working off of.
Link to this answerI got a lesson and gained distance overnight — how do I update a club without losing its history?
Use "Re-map this club" on that club's card. This resets its number without wiping your history, and is also the right move after a new shaft, a re-fit, or if a club's distance has clearly drifted from reality on its chart.
Link to this answerCan I re-run the whole bag at once instead of fixing clubs one by one?
Yes — re-run the full bag through Assessment if several distances have shifted at once (a swing change, an off-season layoff), rather than re-mapping each club individually.
Link to this answerWill the app ever guess or auto-adjust a distance on its own without evidence?
No — distances only update from confirmed evidence (rounds, warm-ups) or your own manual edits. Nothing is silently guessed.
Link to this answerGPS / Battery
What does the green dot on the GPS map mean?
It means the app is actively tracking you. The app goes live on its own as you start moving and auto-detects which hole you're on — you don't need to manually confirm the hole unless something looks wrong.
Link to this answerMy GPS yardages seem off by 10-20 yards — what's going on?
Cart-path routing and tree cover are the most common causes — they can shift where GPS thinks your ball is. Long-press the marker and drag it to your ball's real position; the plan rebuilds immediately from the corrected spot. This is the direct fix, not a bug to report.
Link to this answerThe app says "Searching for GPS signal" and never resolves — how do I fix it?
Confirm location permission is set to "Always" (this is required, and it's called out before your first tee shot). Then toggle airplane mode on and off to force a GPS refresh. If it persists, restarting the app usually resolves it.
Link to this answerDoes Drop The Hands work if I lose cell signal out on the course?
GPS positioning doesn't rely on a cell connection, so yardages and hole detection keep working in low-signal areas. Features that reach the caddie's servers — like asking a free-text question mid-hole — may be delayed until signal returns; the core round tracking continues either way.
Link to this answerThe app crashed mid-round — did I lose my data?
No — your data is saved continuously. Reopen the app and your in-progress round will be there; you shouldn't need to re-enter anything you'd already logged.
Link to this answerDrop The Hands is draining my battery faster than other golf apps — is that normal?
Continuous GPS is more battery-intensive than static scorecard apps. Start your round with a full charge, or enable Battery Saver Mode in Settings, which reduces GPS polling frequency with a small accuracy tradeoff.
Link to this answerCan I use Drop The Hands with my phone in low-power mode?
You can, but low-power mode throttles background GPS refresh on most phones, which can cause delayed or "stuck" yardages. We don't recommend it for full rounds.
Link to this answerMy phone got too hot on the course and the app crashed / GPS stopped — what happened?
Direct sun plus continuous GPS can cause thermal throttling, which interrupts location services. Keep your phone in a pocket or bag between shots rather than in direct sun on your cart.
Link to this answerDoes the app work on my Apple Watch?
Yes. The Apple Watch companion mirrors your live round from your paired iPhone — distance to the green, the caddie's club recommendation, and hazard alerts, glanceable from your wrist. Start the round on your iPhone and the watch surfaces it automatically; there's no separate sign-in.
Link to this answerDuring the Round
Do I need to do anything to start tracking once I get to the course?
Start the round before your first tee shot — pick the course, your real tees, and nine or 18 holes. A full charge and location set to "Always" are both recommended going in.
Link to this answerWhat is "the Ritual" and do I have to do it?
It's an optional pre-round warm-up (15, 30, or 45 minutes) where every number you hit gets banked and read on the first tee — warm up with a 175-yard driver that day and the caddie plans around that number. If you're short on time, tap "No time — to the tee." The round works fine either way; the Ritual just makes the first few holes smarter.
Link to this answerWhat's the "briefing" I see before I start?
A quick summary — trouble-hole plans, anything carrying over from your warm-up, and your goal for the day. It takes about 30 seconds to glance at before your first swing.
Link to this answerWhat are the one-tap questions that pop up during the round?
Quick shot confirmations or club corrections. Answering them (rather than dismissing them) is what keeps your shot trail — and therefore your distance data — accurate.
Link to this answerCan I actually talk to the caddie, or is it just yardages?
You can tell it things it can't see — "ball's above my feet," "I have to carry the water" — and it re-plans around that. You can also ask it anything in plain English, or tap a quick question chip (what club, where to miss, wind, am I on pace), and it explains its reasoning using your own numbers.
Link to this answerIf I disagree with the caddie and hit something else, does it penalize me?
No — good overrides get credited, not lectured. If your choice works out, it's tracked positively, not as an error.
Link to this answerWhat am I supposed to do on the green — is putting tracked automatically?
No, greens need a quick manual step: drag the pin to where it was actually cut, drag your ball marker to where your first putt started, and log your putts. Skipping this means nothing gets recorded for that green — the app won't fill in made-up numbers.
Link to this answerWhat does an amber tag on a shot mean?
It flags something on that shot that needs your confirmation or correction before the round can close out cleanly. Clear any amber tags before tapping Finish so your round data comes in clean.
Link to this answerWhat happens when I tap "Finish"?
Once "That's the round" appears, tapping Finish triggers your analysis, coaching feedback, and updated practice plan automatically — no further action needed.
Link to this answerYour Par & Recommendations
What is "Your Par"?
Your Par is a personalized target for each hole based on your handicap, not scratch golf — the score that's realistically yours to shoot. It's why a 100 at your home course might read as "+3 over your number" rather than "+28 over scratch." It measures you against yourself, so progress is visible round to round.
Link to this answerWhy does the caddie show percentages like "Green 62%, Bunker 9%" instead of just a yardage?
Those are outcome probabilities — the caddie's read on what's likely to happen with a given club and target, based on your distances and miss patterns. They're there so you can weigh risk, not just distance: sometimes the higher-percentage play is the smarter one even when a more aggressive club would reach.
Link to this answerHow does the caddie know my "miss" and warn me before I swing?
It draws on the miss shape and direction you set per club in bag setup, refined by your actual shots over time. That's what lets it say things like "your miss is left here, so favor the right half" before you hit.
Link to this answerWhat's "The Verdict" after my round?
It's a coaching narrative rather than a stats page — it names what cost you strokes, separates execution from decision-making, and writes a per-hole coaching line for each hole you played. From any finding, you can tap through to a drill that addresses it.
Link to this answerWhat are the six pillars in my skill read?
They're the behavioral scoring categories the app tracks: Tee Reliability, Short Game, Putting, Damage Control, Green Access, and Miss Quality. Together they show where your scoring is actually won or lost, beyond a single handicap number.
Link to this answerWhat is the Coach tab?
Your coach gives you a short brief — your last round, the one move to work on next, and where your game stands. Ask it a question and it answers with your real rounds and shots in front of it, and it remembers the conversation, so a follow-up like "tell me more about that hole" just works.
Link to this answerDistance Data & Calibration
distance data comes from Assessment, rounds, warm-ups, and Apple Watch sessions,
Where do my club distances actually come from?
Assessment (your initial setup), the rounds you play, warm-up sessions ("the Ritual"), Apple Watch sessions, and any manual edits you make. Nothing is guessed without evidence.
Link to this answerHow do I know if a club's distance is accurate yet, or still being figured out?
Check the club's confidence label — it moves from "Learning" toward "dialed" as more evidence comes in. Each club card also shows which source (assessment, rounds, warm-ups, or manual) its current number is based on.
Link to this answerA club's number looks wrong now — what changed?
Common causes: a new shaft, a lesson that added distance, or gradual drift that shows up on the club's chart over time. Use "Re-map this club" to reset it without losing history, or re-run the whole bag through Assessment if several clubs shifted at once.
Link to this answerDoes dispersion (shot pattern/miss tendency) update the same way distance does?
Yes — dispersion builds from confirmed shots over time. Early on, before enough evidence exists, the app uses a typical spread for your skill level and tells you that's what it's doing, rather than presenting it as a confirmed number.
Link to this answerCan I upload a video of my swing for analysis?
Not yet — video-based swing analysis is coming soon. Today, your distances and tendencies are built from rounds, warm-ups, Apple Watch sessions, and Assessment. We'll announce video analysis when it's ready.
Link to this answerPractice & Drills
Where do my practice plans come from?
They're generated from your own round data — the app turns what cost you strokes into a focused plan rather than a generic drill list. The coaching loop then validates what you worked on, watches for it on course, and sets your next priority.
Link to this answerWhat's the difference between practice mode and test mode?
Practice mode is for reps and building feel; test mode measures where you actually stand on a drill so the app can track improvement over time. Both draw from the same drill categories.
Link to this answerHow does a drill connect back to what I need to work on?
From a finding in The Verdict, you can tap straight through to the drill that addresses it — so practice is tied to what your rounds show, not chosen at random.
Link to this answerClubhouse
What is the Clubhouse?
The Clubhouse is Drop The Hands' community feed. It's where you share standout holes from your rounds and set up rounds with other golfers. Drop The Hands is an 18-and-over app, and the Clubhouse is an adults-only community.
Link to this answerHow do I connect with or follow other golfers?
From the Friends tab in Clubhouse, you can search and request friends. Once the request is accepted, they will appear in your friends list.
Link to this answerHow do I set up a round with someone — what's a tee-time proposal?
You can propose a tee time and lock in a round with your group from the Drop The Hands Clubhouse. You can propose a tee time to any of your existing friends in the Drop The Hands Clubhouse.
Link to this answerCan I control who sees what I post?
Yes, you can share to your locker, your friends, or broadly outside of Drop The Hands.
Link to this answerSomeone posted something inappropriate — how do I report or block them?
Tap the menu at the bottom of any player profile in Clubhouse. You can then mute, remove, block, or report the player and/or content.
Link to this answerBilling / Trial
Is Drop The Hands free, and what does membership cost?
The app is free to download and comes with a 30-day full-access trial. After the trial, founding membership is $25 a year, locked in for as long as you stay a member — founding pricing is available for a limited time. Everything is shown on the subscription screen before you commit.
Link to this answerWhere do I subscribe and manage my membership?
Membership is handled on our website, dropthehands.ai — not through the App Store. You subscribe, update your payment method, and cancel from your account there. There are no in-app purchases to manage.
Link to this answerDoes the free trial require a payment method upfront?
Yes. You add a payment method when you start your trial, but you're not charged until the 30-day trial ends. Cancel any time before then and you won't be charged.
Link to this answerHow long is the free trial, and when does billing start?
The trial runs 30 days from signup. Founding membership billing begins automatically at the end of the trial unless you cancel before it ends. Your specific trial end date is shown in the app and in your signup confirmation, and we email you 7 days before the first charge.
Link to this answerHow do I cancel before my trial ends so I'm not charged?
Cancel from your account on dropthehands.ai before the trial's last day. You'll keep full access through the end of the trial period and won't be charged.
Link to this answerMy card was declined at renewal — did I lose access right away?
No. If a payment fails, we keep your membership active for a 7-day grace period and retry the charge while you update your card in your account on dropthehands.ai. Access only lapses if the payment can't be completed within that window — and your rounds and data stay safe regardless.
Link to this answerI was charged even though I thought I cancelled — what happened?
This is almost always timing — the cancellation was submitted after the trial's cutoff. Check the cancellation confirmation in your account on dropthehands.ai, and if something looks wrong, contact support with your account email and we'll sort it out.
Link to this answerCan I get a refund if I forgot to cancel and was charged for a period I didn't use?
Yes, within 14 days. Founding memberships are refundable within 14 days of a charge — contact support with your account email and the charge date and we'll take care of it. After 14 days we're not able to refund a charge, but you can cancel to stop the next renewal.
Link to this answerIf I cancel, do I lose access immediately or at the end of the billing period?
You keep full access through the end of your current paid period. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it doesn't revoke access you've already paid for. If you rejoin later, your founding rate comes back with you — same $25 a year.
Link to this answerAccount Deletion
How do I delete my account?
Settings → Account → Delete Account. You'll be asked to confirm, since this is irreversible.
Link to this answerIf I delete my account, does that also cancel my membership?
Yes. Deleting your account cancels your membership — we cancel your subscription before the account is removed, so you won't be charged again. If you'd rather keep your account and just stop paying, cancel your membership on dropthehands.ai instead.
Link to this answerWhat happens to my round data and history if I delete my account?
Your profile, rounds, practice history, and swing videos are permanently removed and cannot be recovered once you confirm deletion. We retain only the payment records we're legally required to keep — nothing that identifies your golf.
Link to this answerHow long does account deletion take to process?
Immediately. Your account and all associated data are permanently removed the moment you confirm — there's no processing delay.
Link to this answerCan I pause or deactivate my account instead of deleting it?
There's no separate "deactivate" state. Cancelling your membership stops billing while keeping your data intact — that's the closest option if you want to preserve your history but stop paying.
Link to this answerI deleted my account by mistake — can it be restored?
No. Deletion is immediate and irreversible — your data is removed the moment you confirm, with no recovery window. Because it can't be undone, we ask you to confirm before it goes through.

Email from the address on your account and include your member number if you have one. Billing questions get answered fastest with the charge date.
